Just Breathe
And then prepare...
The weekend has brought a much-needed respite from the Santa Ana winds and wildfire danger. Finally, the winds have flipped themselves around, blowing in off the ocean instead of whipping in all cockeyed from the deserts. Humidity levels are up, along with everyone’s spirits.
Lately, I’ve been inspired by the creativity and generosity of Angelenos and Venturans working to help wildfire victims. Enterprising folks have established everything from clothing and sundries stores for local teens to sprinkler systems that draw from local sources (such as backyard pools) to keep properties well-watered and protected (hopefully) from out-of-control blazes.
Ventura families are opening their homes to displaced Angelenos, and local charities and nonprofits are pitching in to help.
Unfortunately, we’re not out of the proverbial woods. At least two more rounds of Santa Anas are forecast for the coming week, and long-range forecasts aren’t seeing any chance of rain until February.
Please be careful out there. Stay alert and stay safe!
Looking ahead, The 805 Diary will be shifting back to its “regularly scheduled programming” in the coming weeks, with features covering things to see and do in Ventura, a deep(-ish) dive into the Santa Paula Art Museum, and some nostalgic looks back at Santa Paula history.
